Privacy and cookie policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026.
A visit to Comic Sans should primarily be a good night out. We also handle your personal data carefully. Below you can read about which data is collected when you visit cafecomicsans.be or contact a café, why we use it, and what choices and rights you have.
This statement applies to the website and requests made using the contact details provided. It is not a general permission for other processing. For example, for camera surveillance, personnel administration or recognizable event photos, separate, appropriate information is required.
1. Who is responsible?
The joint website and Comic Sans Gent

When asking about privacy, please mention “Privacy” and the relevant location. A shared brand name does not mean that all personal data is shared between the cafes without restriction. For general website questions, including information about Kortrijk, you can contact COMIC SANS BV.
2. What data do we use and why?
Questions, reservations, and requests for groups or events
When you email or call us, the relevant café receives the data you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, preferred date, location, group size, company name and enquiry. We use the relevant information to reply, discuss availability and arrange your booking or event.
For a booking or quote you request for yourself, processing is based on steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, or on performing that contract. For general enquiries and business contacts, the basis is our legitimate interest in handling enquiries properly, balanced against your privacy interests. Mandatory administration is based on the applicable legal obligation.
You only need to provide the data that is necessary. Without contact details, we usually cannot reply; without a date or group size, we may be unable to assess a group enquiry. Please provide one group contact rather than a full guest list. An enquiry or booking does not sign you up for marketing.
Technical operation and security
To deliver a page, the technical infrastructure processes connection data, such as an IP address, time, requested page, browser information, and technical error messages. This data may be necessary to make the website work, investigate problems, and prevent abuse. The basis is the legitimate interest in a working and secure website, limited to what is necessary for that purpose.
Visitor statistics
We use Google Analytics 4 only if you allow analytics cookies, to understand website use and improve the website. The legal basis is your consent. See sections 5 and 6 for more information.
Data we do not need
Do not send any identity card, payment card details, medical records, or other sensitive information with a simple inquiry. Simply discuss practical accessibility without sharing health information beyond what is necessary. The website currently does not offer public visitor accounts, comments, or online payments.
3. Who gets access?
Staff have access only as needed to handle an enquiry or booking. An enquiry is forwarded to another location only when appropriate to your request, and only with the necessary information.
For the website and communication, service providers are used for hosting, technical maintenance, email and backups. They can process data within their assignment. In addition, we use CookieYes Limited for the management and registration of cookie preferences and Google Analytics for statistical purposes after consent has been given. Also, competent authorities or professional advisors may receive data when there is a legal obligation or a concrete need for it.
We do not sell visitor lists. You can request more information about the recipients of your data via the contact details in section 1.
4. How long do we keep data?
Retention depends on the purpose, necessary follow-up, any legal obligations and the need to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. Data should not be kept indefinitely simply for convenience.
- Enquiries and bookings that do not go ahead: For as long as necessary to handle the request and to provide for the reasonably expected follow-up.
- Reservations and events: For as long as necessary for preparation, execution, settlement, and necessary aftercare. Any dispute may require longer retention of the relevant documents.
- Invoice and accounting data: during the legally required term for the relevant document.
- Technical logs and backups: limited to what is necessary for security, incident investigation and recovery. Backups have a different function than actively used files.
- Cookie choice: The CookieYes cookie remembers your choice for up to one year, unless you change it or delete the cookie earlier.
- Analytics: The current property stores event data for two months and user data for fourteen months. The user retention period is restarted with new activity. These settings do not automatically apply to aggregated standard reports.
Evidence of a cookie choice is separate from the cookie on your device. It may remain necessary to demonstrate your choice and handle a privacy request or dispute. A cookie ID or other code does not automatically make personal data anonymous. You can ask about the retention of your specific data.
5. Cookies and your choice
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. We use CookieYes to display, remember and record your choices. The banner lets you accept all, reject all or set your preferences. Non-essential categories are disabled by default. Continuing to browse or contacting a café does not constitute consent.
Necessary cookies They support the functioning of the website and, among other things, remember your privacy preferences. For this, no consent is required when they are strictly necessary for the service you request. Analytical cookies They are only used with your consent. Refusing them does not prevent you from viewing the regular information on the website.
Cookies for regular visitors
- cookieyes-consent / cookieyes-* — CookieYes, on cafecomicsans.be. Necessary: remembers your cookie preferences. Duration: up to one year.
- _ga — Google Analytics, on cafecomicsans.be. Analytical: uses a pseudonym identifier to distinguish visits. Duration: up to 400 days; only after consent.
- _ga_* — Google Analytics, on cafecomicsans.be. Analytical: keeps session and visit information. Duration: up to 400 days; only with consent.
The inventory was checked on October 28, 2026. The term can be renewed for later use; browsers can delete or restrict cookies earlier. Cookies for logged-in website administrators are not the same as cookies for regular visitors. In the preferences window, you can also find the cookie categories and descriptions.
Change preferences or withdraw consent
Open the cookie icon, which remains accessible on the website, to review your preferences. Choose “Reject all”, or switch Analytics off and save your preferences. You can give consent again later. Withdrawal applies going forward and does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing based on consent. You can also delete cookies in your browser; this does not automatically erase data already sent to a service provider.
For the registration of choices, CookieYes processes, among other things, an authorization ID, your chosen categories, the time and technical data necessary to register the choice. For more information about the service, see CookieYes.
6. Google Analytics and Consent Mode
Google Analytics 4 gives us insights into things like viewed pages, interactions, visit duration, referring websites, global location, and browser and device characteristics. Pseudonymous online identifiers are used in this process. These are not necessarily anonymous data.
CookieYes communicates your choice through Google Consent Mode. The website uses basic consent mode: Analytics is only allowed after consent to analytics. Google Signals is off, and ad personalisation is disabled in the Analytics property for every region. The additional account options for sharing data with Google are off. Google Tag Manager is connected for technical tag management; the connected container currently contains no additional measurement tags.
According to Google, IP addresses from users in the EU, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are not logged or stored in Analytics. An IP address is technically processed to establish a connection and derive a global location. The cookie and data retention periods are set out in sections 4 and 5.
More information: Google Privacy Policy, Google Analytics and European data and Data storage in Analytics.
7. Newsletter and future features
The website does not currently offer a newsletter subscription. Use the social media links to follow the cafés on their own channels. Contacting a café does not automatically add your contact details to a mailing list.
When a newsletter, contact form, online reservation system, or other new service is added, the relevant privacy information is adjusted in advance. A newsletter receives a separate, voluntary subscription and a simple unsubscribe option. This statement does not give prior consent for future tracking, advertising, or new processing.
8. External links and fonts
The website links to Google Maps, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, among others. After clicking, you visit the respective service, where the respective privacy policies apply. Opening in a new tab does not prevent their data processing. Regular links are not embedded social feeds.
Currently, fonts are loaded for the design via Google Fonts. Your browser connects to Google for this purpose and sends technical connection data, including your IP address. This is a separate connection for the display and is independent of Google Analytics and the consent for analytical cookies.
9. Processing outside the EEA
Service providers may process data outside the European Economic Area or make it accessible from there. This can, for example, apply to international services provided by Google and CookieYes. Therefore, not all data remains necessary in Belgium or the EU.
An international transfer requires a valid mechanism, such as an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards, including European standard contractual clauses and, where necessary, additional measures. Google Data Processing Terms contain information about the processing and transfer safeguards. For information about the recipients, countries, and safeguards applicable to your data, or a copy thereof, you can contact the responsible party in section 1. Cookie consent in itself does not constitute a general exemption from the rules for international transfers.
10. Security
The website uses HTTPS to encrypt website traffic during transport. Access to data should be restricted to those who need it for their work. No website or email connection is completely risk-free. If you suspect a misdirected delivery message or other privacy issue, please contact the relevant café and only share what is necessary to investigate the problem.
11. Your rights
Depending on the processing and the legal conditions, you can:
- request access to and a copy of your personal data;
- correct or complete data;
- erasing data or limiting its use;
- to object to processing on the basis of legitimate interest due to your specific situation;
- object to direct marketing, including related profiling;
- receive or transmit self-provided data in a commonly used digital format, when the automated processing is based on consent or an agreement;
- revoke permission for future use.
A legal retention obligation may prevent certain data from being deleted immediately. No solely automated decisions with legal consequences or significantly similar consequences are made for the described website functions.
Send your request to the responsible person in section 1 and describe what it concerns. In case of reasonable doubt about your identity, a proportionate check may be required; do not send a full copy of your identity by default. In principle, your request will be answered free of charge and within one month. In complex or multiple requests, this term may be extended by up to two months; you will be informed within the first month about this.
12. Any questions or complaints?
For website and statistics questions, you can contact jeroen.baert@hotmail.be. For the Brussels-based service, you can email to info@comicsansbrussels.be.
You can file a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, or to the competent supervisory authority where you usually live, work or where the alleged infringement occurred.
13. Changes
In the event of relevant changes to the website or data processing, we will adapt this statement accordingly. The date at the top shows when this was last done. If new consent is required, we will request it separately; an adapted privacy statement does not replace that consent.
